The Lughnasadh Cross-Quarter

What is a cross-quarter? Technically, a cross-quarter forms when the Sun aligns at 15 degrees of the sign between the Equinox and the Solstice, whether the season is winter or summer. This type of alignment happens four times each calendar year. And, the exact dates migrate, as does our planet.

This year, the fire festival falls on 8th August, and is not to be confused with any projected 8:8 gate. Dates are human things. The celestial bodies are their own beings and not subject to human designations.

A cross-quarter is an “in-between.” It is an inner re-alignment with Magick, or Grace. These flows are identical, no matter what we may have been taught to believe.

How does Lughnasadh feed and nurture authenticity? Elementally it is the fire alignment of Leo season. Its essence warms and comforts, and, if we allow dis-ease to release into its warmth, helps us to see what we may have been feeding that we no longer need to nurture. It is an alignment within the Solar Feminine as well as the Sun God Lugh. Are we so conditioned into the duality of male/female that we impose that equation on our cosmic neighbors? What if all concepts and definitions are shifting? Will we shift with them?

What are we perceiving and what is real? Is there a more accurate perception we might embrace?

What is closing and what is opening, within us and our lives? These portal doors are in constant motion, some closing, some opening, some acting like revolving doors whose destinations change according to our vibration. What? The destination might shift even as we traverse a doorway? Of course. Our Source alignment chooses the way. And yet, this cross-quarter offers a new palette for each of us. New trajectories for us all.

A friend once said to me, “Well, that’s all well and good, Nalini, but I need my front stoop to be there when I walk outside.” Source laughed through me and said, “Don’t worry, whatever you need for your next steps will form beneath your feet.”

There are locations beyond spacetime where reality responds to thought. For these, our perceptions are being trained. Experience is not outwardly defined, by circumstance, but inwardly, by what we nurture and how we allow our beings to be nurtured.

Shall we allow this cross-quarter to nurture love, peace, freedom, and joy? What dolly does the Divine Mother hold close to Her heart?

We are, each and all, that alignment.
